Cape Coral police investigate 4-year-old’s suspected drug overdose.

The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating after a four-year-old child reportedly overdosed on drugs.

According to CCPD, the incident occurred on Apr. 22, inside a home off SE 8th Place and Nicholas Parkway.

An incident report said the child’s parents told police they recently hosted a party and their child must’ve gotten into leftover drugs.

Cape Coral police initially found out about the overdose thanks to a call from the Department of Children and Families.

Police said the parents took the child to Cape Coral Hospital, but by the time they arrived, the child was nearly unconscious and had to be taken to Golisano’s Children’s Hospital for treatment.

CCPD said the child was just released from the hospital and is now in DCF custody. They will stay there until the police are done with their investigation.

So far, the parents haven’t been arrested. The type of drugs that the child took hasn’t been released at this time. Police are still investigating and trying to figure out if the parents were at fault.
