Car flips upside down and crashes into Port Charlotte home

A car slammed into a car parked in a driveway and pushed it into a home on Harborview Road in Port Charlotte early Sunday morning.

Homeowners Stephanie Lawrence and Tracy Hoffman said they were sound asleep when the car barreled through.

“Came full force off dead man’s curve on Harborview Road, flipped over, hit the tree, flipped over and the car upside down slammed into our house, pushed my car through my house,” said Lawrence.

They went outside to check the damage and saw a car in their home.

“He opened the utility room door, and my car was in the utility room,” explained Lawrence.

They didn’t know if the driver was still in the car.

“The car laid there smashed, upside down, not knowing if the driver was alive at that point,” Lawrence explained.

They also found beer cans scattered across their yard.

Hoffman said, “Beer cans after beer cans, the entire driveway was covered in car parts and beer cans.”

The driver stumbled out of his car with a strange request.

“He just needed a light for his cigarette; he had no idea what he’d done,” said Hoffman.

The homeowners said this isn’t the first time they’ve seen accidents on Harborview Road.

“I don’t know why this hasn’t been addressed; it’s been years of accidents on all my neighbors’ lawns,” said Lawrence.

We’ve reached out to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office to confirm who the driver was.
