A 34-year-old Sanford woman was killed Friday when she fell asleep on the back of a motorcycle and fell onto I-95 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal single-vehicle wreck happened around 2:05 p.m. on I-95 north at mile marker 235, just north of the Brevard County line. Alachua County Fire Rescue and Newberry Fire Rescue put out a Chimney fire at a home Tuesday night. ACFR officials say they responded to a chimney fire at a home just before 9:30 pm. When crews arrived, they reported it as a structure fire as it spread beyond the chimney and into the surrounding walls and attic space. Crews were able to put the fire out quickly. The search for a dangerous dog in Gainesville is now over. Officials with Alachua County say the dog is now in the county’s custody after attacking its owner near the Bivens Cove Apartments on Southwest 13th Street on Tuesday. Alachua County Animal Services had issued a public safety alert while they looked for the dog. Officials say they found the dog with its owner. A man was hospitalized on Christmas Day after Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies say he was shot in the head. Sheriff’s deputies arrested JM, 53, in connection with the shooting on Cullen Avenue in Fort White. After receiving reports of a shooting around 12:40 p.m., first responders found the victim, a white male, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The day after Christmas, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a crash on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Levy County.
