Overnight Thursday, at approximately 2:20 a.m., a CCPD officer was conducting radar enforcement when they saw the silver 2012 Volkswagen Jetta speeding down the road. Advertisement The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and the suspect's vehicle turned onto Del Prado Boulevard North. According to a CCPD news release, that's when the driver, later identified as Javier Alvarez Alvarez, 27, lost control of the vehicle, jumped a curb and crashed into a traffic sign near the intersection. Police said Alvarez admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and told them that he lost control of it due to the vehicle's manual transmission. According to CCPD, Alvarez showed signs of impairment, including watery eyes and an alcohol odor. Police said they found a concealed handgun and an alcohol-filled flask on his person when they searched him. According to the police department, another individual's Florida driver's license was found in his possession. CCPD said an investigation into that discovery is ongoing. Alvarez was arrested for driving under the influence, and he refused to submit to a breath test. CCPD said Alvarez resisted officers by bracing himself to prevent them from closing the door when they tried to put him in a patrol car. Police were able to restrain him and transport him without further incident. Officers also found a cooler containing alcoholic beverages in his vehicle. Alvarez is facing charges for the following at this time: DUI – Driving under the influence DUI property damage DUI refusal Dangerous excessive speeding Fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer Tag – Unlawful alteration Carrying a firearm during the commission of a felony Resisting officer without violence Cape Coral police said it has made seven super speeder arrests this year and 362 DUI arrests.
