FHP: Pedestrian’s death prompts U.S. 1 to close for hours in Miami-Dade

 A man died on Thursday morning after a driver struck him in deep southern Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The man was walking at about 5:50 a.m., and he was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 when the driver of a black Hyundai struck him, according to FHP. The man died near Southwest 291 Street, according to Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for FHP. Investigators closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 for about four hours.

Crash causes heavy delays on Florida’s Turnpike, leaves 1 hospitalized

A crash was causing heavy delays on the Florida’s Turnpike and left at least one person hospitalized Thursday evening, officials said. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Northwest 57th Avenue. Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed crews working to clean debris off the roadway as just one lane of traffic was open. JSO: Man shoots roommate in Southside apartment; suspect detained

 A man is stable after being shot in his Southside apartment on Sunland Drive on Thursday. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the man was sleeping in his bedroom around 12:30 p.m. when his roommate came in and started shooting, striking the man in his foot and leg.
