A 47-year-old Kissimmee man died Saturday night after crashing into a tree near Poinciana, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 9:25 p.m. on Southport Road, troopers said. According to an FHP crash report, the man was driving a van westbound on Southport Road, approaching Hunt Road, when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and struck a mailbox as a result. The van continued traveling west and hit a tree, then a fence, the report states.

An 8-year-old boy was shot and wounded Sunday in Casselberry, police said. The shooting happened around 11:25 a.m. at the GoldElm at Regency Oaks apartments. Casselberry police said the boy was shot in his upper leg while he was inside his apartment. The child was taken to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, but his condition was not released by police. According to police, the shooting was not domestic in nature, nor did it stem from an accidental discharge.

Live Oak firefighters responded to a fire at the Mel Margo apartments on Thursday. Units arrived on scene to a kitchen fire and quickly put out the blaze. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are looking for a Putnam County driver who hit an Interlachen man and then drove off. They say someone driving a red truck hit an 18-year-old along Silver Lake Drive. A grieving family is calling for justice after 40-year-old Joey Henriquez was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash in Pompano Beach on October 12th. A 22-year-old Pensacola woman struck a female pedestrian on Friday evening, leaving the victim in critical condition. Troopers say the incident occurred at 6:42 p.m. on US Highway 90 near State Road 295 when the pedestrian, whose identity remains unknown, was attempting to cross the highway and was hit by the woman’s sedan.
