 Lauderhill police are investigating a shooting that left a young girl injured Wednesday evening. It happened just before 8 p.m. near the area of 3551 Northwest 8th Court. Police said they responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. When officers arrived, they found an 8-year-old girl with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in stable condition. Detectives said the incident appears to be the result of a drive-by shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

Firefighters rescued a dog inside a home in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday while fighting flames in a neighboring unit, authorities said. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said they were called to a fire in a multi-unit apartment building at about 9:50 a.m. at 1132 Northwest 5th Court.
