Shortly after 9 a.m. Aug. 27, Nokomis firefighters were dispatched to Maple Street for a house reportedly smoking. While en route, firefighters were notified that the house was fully involved, but all residents and pets were able to escape outside. Nokomis and Venice fire units began fighting the fire; a second alarm was sounded for additional personnel due to severe humidity.
