A man arrested Friday in Lady Lake is accused of forcing his way into a 78-year-old woman’s home and hurting her in an attempt to steal her purse, according to police.  A vehicle caught on fire on I-275 northbound near the Dick Misener Bridge Wednesday afternoon. A child was hit by a car at a school bus stop in Lee County on Wednesday morning. A pedestrian was hit and killed on a major highway in southern Columbia County on Wednesday morning. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a 73-year-old man from High Springs was walking in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 41 around 5 a.m. Near Adams Street, a car headed north struck the man, knocking him into the southbound lane, where a van headed south then hit him. Photo by: Local10  Firefighters responded to a one-story building on Wednesday morning in Fort Lauderdale’s Homes Beautiful Park area. According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, there was a fire in an apartment along Northwest 12 Avenue, near Eighth Street. A senior was in the apartment and made it out safely. The cause of the fire was under investigation. The Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department later released video from the ground showing smoke billowing out from the back of the building.
