Charlotte County auto shop owner arrested for pipe attack on customer

Charlotte County auto shop owner arrested for pipe attack on customer

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said FC, owner of Lemon Bay Auto on Placida Road in Charlotte County, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after attacking a customer with a pipe.

AC drove his 2004 Aviator to Grove City on Tuesday for C to install a new transmission. C said, “When they put the new one in, and the old sludge went into the new one and destroyed it. When I brought it to his attention, he snapped.”

According to deputies, when C reached into his car to grab a cigarette, C walked up behind him with a pipe and beat his head with it.

“It’s a makeshift pipe, it’s metal over wood. So it would a half pipe on a piece of wood,” said C. “My car was up on the rack, so I went to the toolbox to find something like a pair of pliers that could grip my cigarettes that were up in the car, and while I was bent over trying to get the cigarette, and the pliers… I got hit in the head.”

C described the attack, saying, “He was on top of me, like, you know, really trying to get into my skull, and I’m blocking from the floor, and then his worker came and pull them off. He drops the weapon, runs in the back.”

The attack was particularly painful for C because he said he had known C for 20 years. “Fred was the only one who stood by my side. So I was the only one that I trusted with my car. And you know, we became very close,” C said.

“I made this guy like family to me. I was so blown away that I didn’t. I still don’t have anger. I still don’t have anger with this guy. And he robbed me for $1,350,” said C.

C is now stranded without a car and without the money he paid for the transmission. He was living in his Aviator with his dog.

An arrest affidavit said detectives interviewed C to get his side of the story, but his statements were inconsistent. C claimed he acted in self-defense because C was hovering over the mechanics and approached him with a wrench.

The affidavit said, “Frederick C was inconsistent with remembering if he struck the victim with the pipe or if he just used it to hold the victim down. Frederick stated he is right-handed. While reviewing the scene, I observed that if the victim was faced towards Frederick as he fell backwards onto the tire machine, there would be a red mark on the victim’s right side of his back. The victim had a red mark on the left side of his back, which is inconsistent with Frederick’s statement. The injury to the victim’s back and head is consistent with being struck from behind and also consistent with the aggressor.”
