Child hospitalized after escaping fire through window in Escambia County home

A child was taken to the hospital after a home kitchen fire in Escambia County on Friday afternoon.

The fire was at a home on Shear Street. Crews were dispatched to the area around 3:40 p.m.

The county says there were seven occupants. All made it out of the home.

According to a fire chief, the incident started in the kitchen. He says a girl escaped through the window.

The fire chief says she was taken to the hospital as precaution for smoke inhalation.

Moderate damage was inside of the home, the fire chief says. The county says crews extinguished the fire by around 4 p.m.
