Crash closes lanes on Howard Frankland Bridge

Southbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa were closed for a time around midday Thursday after a four-vechicle crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Traffic immediately began to back up, causing significant delays for traffic from Tampa heading into St. Petersburg.

Investigators say at about 1:10 a.m., a Toyota Tundra lost control, drove onto the shoulder and his a barrier. The vehicle bounced back into traffic, hitting three other vehicles.

The driver of the Tundra, a 42-year-old Tampa man, was seriously injured, troopers said. Another driver recieved minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

By 1:15 p.m., all lanes had been reopened.
