A Daytona Beach Police Department officer was arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they received reports of a truck driving recklessly across the road. Upon arriving at the scene, they found the vehicle on a curb with its front end smashed into a light pole.
The driver was later identified as officer EL, who has been with the Daytona Beach Police Department since May 13, 2018.
Deputies began conducting a crash report and noticed L had watery, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage.
In the arrest report, deputies said he had dilated light-colored eyes and slurred speech.
The deputy attempted to administer a Standardized Field Sobriety test. However, L refused to give consent and refused to comply with the test.
As a result, L was charged with a DUI misdemeanor and refusal to submit to a lawful breath test, according to deputies.
L has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review.
