Driver critically injured in Charlotte crash

A Fort Myers man was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Charlotte County Monday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators say the 24-year-old man was driving a sedan south on U.S. 41, south of Acline Road, at about 6:30 p.m. when a 73-year-old Arcadia woman in an SUV pulled out of a private driveway, also heading south, on U.S 41.

As both vehicles attempted to change lanes, the sedan struck the SUV and went off the roadway, troopers said.

The sedan overturned. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
