Driver escapes vehicle before car catches fire in Sarasota crash

A driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash in Sarasota on Saturday.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, the crash happened near the intersection of Nancy Street and Euclid Avenue. Investigators say the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, failed to make a turn and drove into a ditch.

After the crash, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle. Shortly afterward, the car caught fire.

The Sarasota County Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames.

The driver was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
