Driver found dead after his truck went airborne and crashed into a tree

At 11:04 a.m. on Oct. 19, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) found a 76-year-old male dead after his pickup truck collided with a tree.

Troopers said that the incident occurred on County Road 721 and near the intersection of US-98 in Highlands County.

FHP reported that after the driver had failed to stop at an intersection — he had then went airborne after going over the North grass shoulder of the road and collided with a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP reports.

The crash remains under investigation.
