A Palm Beach County man was arrested after the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said he drove more than 100 mph and tried to outrun deputies in Indiantown.
According to the sheriff’s office, 33-year-old T was spotted driving aggressively on State Road 710, one of Martin County’s most dangerous roads. Deputies said T was traveling at speeds above 100 mph and forcing other vehicles off the roadway.
When deputies tried to pull him over, investigators said T fled, weaving through traffic before turning onto Southwest Martin Highway toward Palm City.
Deputies later spotted him again traveling eastbound on Martin Highway near Allapattah Road. The sheriff’s office said deputies used stop sticks near Interstate 95, disabling T’s vehicle.
Investigators said T then got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but deputies caught him a short distance away and took him into custody.
T was booked into the Martin County Jail on several charges, including fleeing and eluding, aggravated fleeing with injury or damage, driving more than 50 mph over the speed limit, driving with a suspended or revoked license, obstruction without violence and operating a vehicle at more than 100 mph. The sheriff’s office said he was also wanted on an out-of-county warrant.
Under Florida’s “dangerous excessive speeding” or “Super Speeder” law, drivers can face criminal penalties for going 50 mph or more over the speed limit, or for driving 100 mph or more in a way that threatens people or property or interferes with traffic. A first conviction is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both. A second or later conviction carries up to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both, and a repeat conviction within five years can lead to a license revocation of 180 days to one year.
No details were immediately released about the out-of-county warrant or whether anyone was injured during the chase.
