Driver who admitted taking anti-depressants arrested after collision on U.S. 301

A 46-year-old Belleview woman who admitted to taking anti-depressants was arrested after a rear-end collision on U.S. 301.

S was driving a blue Subaru at about 5:40 p.m. Sept. 9 northbound on U.S. 301 near Southeast 147th Place in Summerfield when she failed to stop for a white Ford that was slowing down for traffic. Her vehicle collided with the rear of the Ford, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The trooper investigating the crash noted that S had glassy, watery eyes, droopy eyelids and slurred speech. She also struggled to walk in a straight line. The driver of the Ford also told the trooper that S’s words were hard to understand.

S told the trooper she was driving home from a doctor’s appointment and admitted she was “possibly speeding.” She said she had taken the anti-depressant medications Abilify and Effexor that morning, but claimed they did not affect her ability to drive.

Following a poor performance on field sobriety exercises, S was taken into custody. She provided breath samples that both registered 0.00 blood alcohol content and agreed to provide a urine sample.

She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence with property damage and issued a citation for careless driving. She was booked at the Marion County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
