A 30-year-old Lake City woman is facing DUI manslaughter and other charges after investigators say she hit a bicyclist with her SUV on Wednesday in Gainesville.
She had a 1-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and another young girl in the SUV at the time of the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. They were not hurt.
The 68-year-old man riding the bicycle died at the hospital.
According to FHP, G was headed south on NW 75th Street (Tower Road) near NW 5th Place just after 8 p.m. when she hit the bicyclist, who is from Fanning Springs, Florida.
The impact knocked the man onto the road and sent the bicycle into the oncoming lane, where it was run over by an SUV headed north, troopers said.
The second SUV was driven by a 45-year-old Gainesville woman who was not hurt, troopers said. She was wearing a seat belt.
According to the report, G was not wearing a seat belt, and of the three children, only the 1-year-old boy was in a child restraint. The age of the second girl was not listed in the report, but based on the charges, she is under 18 years old.
G was booked in the Alachua County Jail on charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI causing damage to property or person, refusal to submit to DUI testing and three counts of driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher with a person under 18 in the vehicle.
