A St. Petersburg man was charged with a felony over the weekend after crashing his car into a home in Clearwater and then attempting to flee the scene, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened just after midnight on Saturday, when 31-year-old AE M-J was traveling south on Keene Road in an Acura.
Police didn’t say how fast the driver was going, but he went off the roadway near Hunt Lane and slammed through a fence at 1433 South Keene Road.
Once through the fence, he continued forward until crashing into the front of the house. Police did not say whether anyone was inside the home at the time or if anyone was injured.
M-J fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended by a Pinellas deputy with a K-9 just a few hundred feet from the house.
He was arrested, taken to the Pinellas County Jail, and charged with felony battery of a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, refusal to submit to DUI testing, DUI with property damage and resisting an officer.
Jail records indicate he was released on bond early Monday morning.
