A quiet bus ride turned violent in seconds, leaving an elderly passenger unconscious and an attacker on the run.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said it needs the public’s help identifying a man who violently assaulted and robbed an elderly passenger aboard a Broward County Transit bus. The unprovoked attack occurred around 12:39 p.m. on March 5, at S.W.12th Avenue, off S.W. 6th Street.
Witnesses say the elderly victim was sitting quietly when an unidentified man approached — began shouting profanities — and assumed a threatening stance. Due to the escalating aggression, the bus driver stopped the bus and instructed passengers to exit. As the victim approached the driver to inquire about the stop, the unidentified man suddenly launched a physical attack, knocking the victim unconscious and stealing his cellphone before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue treated the victim at the scene and transported him to Broward Health North with multiple injuries.
The sheriff’s office provided photos and descriptions of the attacker. He is around 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs around 160 pounds. At the time of the assault, BSO said he was wearing a white long-sleeve jacket, black shirt, and black shorts.
