Family of 4 hurt in overnight Florida house explosion

Four people were hurt early Tuesday morning in a house explosion in Broward County.

According to NBC Miami, crews were called to the 5200 block of Southwest 20th Street in West Park just before 1 a.m.

Firefighters scoured the debris-covered scene for injured people, and four were taken to the hospital.

Officials said the people injured were all family members and include two children. Three of the four were then taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with burn injuries, smoke inhalation and trauma. The injuries range from serious to critical.

Officials said it “appears to be a gas explosion.”

Multiple homes and cars were damaged, according to officials.

“I smelled like a tire, rubbery smoke. And then that was it. I didn’t see any fire or anything like that, but I’m just guessing. It was like on the ground. It was a massive explosion,” one witness told NBC Miami.

WLPG reports crews evacuated nearby homes.

People in neighboring areas reported hearing a loud noise and feeling structures shake.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion.
