FHP: 28-year-old killed; 2 children seriously hurt in crash on State Road 47 in Columbia County

A 28-year-old woman is dead and two children are in serious condition after a crash on State Road 47 near Chastain Road in Columbia County on Friday. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 8:10 a.m. Friday, troopers said a sedan was heading north on SR-47 when for an unknown reason, it traveled off the road and into the east shoulder.

After traveling a short distance, the vehicle traveled back into the road, but the driver overcorrected causing it to end up back on the east shoulder where it crashed into a tree, FHP said.

After crashing into a tree, the vehicle overturned coming to a final stop on its roof.

The three passengers, an 8-year-old girl, a 3-year-old girl and an infant were taken to Shands Hospital after the crash.

The 8-year-old and 3-year-old sustained serious injuries, whereas the infant suffered minor injuries. 

The 28-year-old driver died at the scene.
