FHP: Leesburg crash leaves 94-year-old dead

A 94-year-old driver is dead after a crash in Lake County, FHP reports.

Around 4:13 p.m. on Sunday, a sedan was traveling southbound on US 27 approaching Plantation Boulevard in the inside lane. An SUV was traveling eastbound on Plantation Boulevard and was attempting to make a left turn to travel north on US27.

According to FHP, the sedan was unable to stop in time for the traffic signal, and as a result, collided with the left side of the SUV.

The 32-year-old driver of the sedan was transported to Leesburg Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, FHP says.

The 94-year-old driver of the SUV was transported to Blue Cedar Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

This crash remains under investigation.
