Selmon Expressway reopens following fatal crash Saturday night.

The Lee Roy Selmon Expressway’s westbound lanes reopened at 2:41 am Sunday after a motorcycle crash Saturday night killed a 28-year-old man.

The Tampa man suffered fatal injuries after losing control of his Ducati motorcycle east of Bay to Bay Boulevard and colliding with a chain link fence at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

All westbound lanes were closed after the crash. Traffic was rerouted onto Willow Avenue. The highway reopened at around 2:41 a.m.

This was the second fatal accident to shut down a major Tampa roadway in 24 hours. Early Saturday morning on Gandy Boulevard, an adult male died after exiting his vehicle to cross the highway. He was struck by a passing vehicle.

Gandy Boulevard was shut down until 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to a Tampa Police news release.
