FHP: One killed in crash.

A man died in a two-vehicle crash just after midnight Tuesday at U.S. 41 and State Road 776, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at 12:01 a.m., when a Toyota sedan crashed into a parked Chevy pickup, according to the report.

The 43-year-old driver of the car, a man from Laurel, died at the scene, the report states.

According to the report, the man was headed west on U.S. 41 in the outside lane as he approached the intersection.

He lost control of his car, hit a curb and went onto the sidewalk.

The car then spun into the intersection, over the median where it hit a light pole before colliding with the pickup, which was parked alongside the road at Jenkins Chevrolet, 2324 South Tamiami Trail.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate this crash,” troopers reported Tuesday morning.
