Fire destroys building that once housed ‘iconic’ nightclub in Avon Park, officials say

An iconic part of Avon Park’s history was left destroyed Wednesday night following a large fire, officials said.

Firefighters with Highlands County Fire Rescue said they found flames bursting from the former Beachfront nightclub building on West Garrett Road around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.

More than four dozen emergency responders from multiple different agencies helped fight the blaze. They remained on scene well into the early morning hours due to the sheer size of the 10,000-square-foot building and extent of the fire.
