Flames could be seen rising from the roof of Fort Myers High School’s gym building.
According to the Fort Myers Fire Department, the fire possibly started from roof work. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames.
FMFD said crews were able to extinguish most of it through aerial operations and aggressive attack.
Crews are assessing for any fire extension and clean-up, FMFD Chief T McM said. There were no injuries, according to FMFD.
The following message was released by Fort Myers High School:
“Dear Fort Myers High School Staff and Families,
“Earlier this evening, a fire broke out on the roof of the Fort Myers High School gymnasium. Thankfully, no students or staff were in the building at the time, and no injuries have been reported. The fire has since been extinguished by the Fort Myers Fire Department. We thank our school staff that was in attendance nearby at the softball field who quickly reported the incident.
“Fire officials and our maintenance staff are currently on-site assessing the damage and cause. We are currently working to determine how school operations will be impacted tomorrow.
“We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and support.”
