Florida woman found dead in her home after being attacked by 4 dogs

The Daytona Beach Police Department said a woman was tragically killed in her home last week in what appeared to be a violent dog attack.

Police responded to the home at around 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, after the victim’s boyfriend became worried after not being able to reach her. She wasn’t answering the phone, and when he arrived at her home, he found her unresponsive on the floor.

He called the police, and upon arrival, officers found the victim, 38-year-old Monica Emerson, severely injured while four dogs ran freely around the home. The group was made up of one large, mixed-breed male and three of his offspring, police said.

The police department did not provide any more information about the breed of the dogs or whether they belonged to Emerson.

She had injuries consistent with an animal attack, and no evidence of foul play or human involvement was found by investigators, DBPD said.

The investigation is still active, but police said they believe Emerson experienced some kind of medical emergency that left her unconscious, and the dogs fatally attacked her.

Animal control collected the dogs and took them to Volusia County Animal Control Services, where they will be held for 10 days and then euthanized.
