A high-speed police chase near downtown Fort Myers ended in a crash that changed a young woman’s life, with the driver, Ahmad Alexander, sentenced to five years in prison for his actions. A 12-year-old was in the backseat of his car.
Ahmad Alexander was found guilty of child abuse, fleeing police, reckless driving, and for driving with a suspended license on Nov. 4, 2025.
“It just took me a while to work up the courage to drive again. It was pretty scary,” the victim said.
In November 2024, a 21-year-old woman was driving home from work near downtown Fort Myers when she saw police chasing AAr. As she reached Park Avenue and 2nd Street, her life took a dramatic turn.
“Out of nowhere, I just start flying like I hear this huge bang, and I am flying through the air, and all my things and my car flying everywhere. And eventually I landed upside down. And for a few moments, all I heard was my screaming, my mom screaming over the phone,” she said.
A’s car collided with hers, sending it rolling into a tree. The victim was trapped upside down in her car for five to ten minutes after the crash. Police arrested A at the scene, while two bystanders helped pull the victim from her vehicle. She was unable to work for six months due to a hip injury sustained in the crash, and the car she had saved up for five years to buy was destroyed.
The 12-year-old who was in A’s car had minor injuries.
“Appreciate what you have because you could just be driving home from work, go in the speed limit, you know, putting your phone on Bluetooth, doing everything right, and just out of nowhere, like you could, you know, I could have potentially died. Like it could happen to anybody at any time,” she said.
