Friends, family, coworkers, and members of the community gathered on Sunday to honor the life of a beloved West Palm Beach bartender who was killed in a hit-and-run while riding an electric scooter home from work.
A memorial for 28-year-old B started at 4 p.m. at O’Shea’s Irish Pub on Clematis Street where he worked.
Flowers and handwritten messages reading, “You will be missed” line the window outside O’Shea’s Pub in memory of Connor.
“Coming here is giving me comfort,” said Connor’s mother J. “Having the customers come up to me and hug me and tell me their stories of how they met Connor, it’s been, you’d think heartbreaking but it was soothing because my heart was already broken.”
Throughout the day Sunday, a steady stream of family, friends and coworkers filled the pub to remember the 28-year-old and support his family.
“It’s amazing but not surprising because this sums up Connor,” said D, Connor’s father. “He never met a stranger, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.”
West Palm Beach police said Connor was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning on July 6. Officers responded to South Olive Avenue near Lakewood Road around 1:50 a.m. and found Connor dead in the roadway with his electric scooter nearby.
According to police, the driver involved in the crash left the scene without stopping to render aid or report the collision.
Connor’s partner C said he went to look for Connor around 4 a.m. when he didn’t make it home.
“When I got there, the police were already there, and I asked them, ‘Is there roadwork here, because my boyfriend’s on the other side of the car and I have to pick him up and bring him home,'” C said choking back tears.
C said Connor was just two miles away from home when he was killed. Now, he now wears Connor’s rings around his neck, keeping him close to his heart.
“He was always just full of life and running around and having a good time,” C said. “He was legitimately so happy. He was just so happy being with me.”
Connor’s parents say their son loved traveling, trains, and meeting new people.
“He’s got friends in Austria, Munich, Paris, Switzerland, you name it,” D said.
As police continue to search for the driver responsible, Connor’s parents say they’re still waiting for answers and hoping that person is held accountable.
“It’s not right,” said J. “We just want the justice to take care of this injustice.”
The family says they were told police found the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash. However, West Palm Beach police could not confirm that information, saying the case remains an active investigation and detectives are continuing to follow every lead.
The investigation remains active, and police have not announced any arrests. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the West Palm Beach Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-8477.
