‘Just turn yourself in,’ his mom pleads.
A 16-year-old from Hallandale Beach has been at Memorial Regional Hospital since Monday, recovering from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash.
From his hospital bed, Tyland Jackson told Local 10 News that he’s grateful to be alive, but wants the driver who hit him to face justice.
“I’m just happy that I’m still alive and I thank God,” Jackson said.
Jackson, a sophomore football player at Hallandale Beach High School, was making a run to a convenience store when the driver hit him near Foster Road and Northwest Eighth Avenue.
“He was dragged about a block-and-a-half and basically just left there,” Antanecia Stanley, Jackson’s mother, told Local 10 News.
Witnesses described the car as an older-model, black Toyota Corolla.
“I’m in disbelief that this individual who hit me is still at large,” Jackson said.
Detectives with the Hallandale Beach Police Department confirmed they are chasing several leads surrounding the crash.
Jackson and his mom said they hope for a big break sooner, rather than later.
“My message to this individual just turn yourself in, an accident is an accident,” Stanley said. “If you just would’ve stopped and checked on my child, I think I would feel so much better.”
Police have been going door-to-door in the neighborhood searching for information.
Broward Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the organization at 954-493-8477.
