Head-on crash kills 1, injures 2 in Chiefland

A Chiefland man died and two other residents were serious injured in a Saturday night crash that involved three vehicles.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on State Road 320 west of NW 14th Street.

A 25-year-old Chiefland man was driving east into Chiefland when his car veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a sedan traveling west. The man’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on the south shoulder.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 62-year-old Chiefland man, and his passenger, a 52-year-old Chiefland woman, were both wearing seatbelts but still suffered serious injuries.

A large piece of debris from the crash struck a second westbound vehicle, but the driver was not injured.

FHP is investigating the crash.
