Injured construction worker rescued from 19th floor of Tampa building

Injured construction worker rescued from 19th floor of Tampa building

Tampa firefighters ascended up 19 stories Monday to rescue a construction worker who was injured at a high-rise building.

Tampa Fire Rescue said crews received a call regarding the injured worker just after 8 a.m. Monday.

The worker was injured on the 19th floor of a building under construction near North Nebraska Avenue and East Harrison Street, according to officials.

Photos provided by Tampa Fire Rescue showed a member of the fire department being strapped to a cable to go up the building and help the worker.

Other workers peered down from multiple levels of the building as the rescue commenced.

Once at the top, the injured construction worker was stabilized and placed in a Stokes basket, a type of stretcher often used in search and rescue situations.

The worker was then carefully lowered down 19 stories before being taken to a local trauma center, firefighters said. There was no further word on the person’s condition.

“Kudos to the crews of Engine 1, Heavy Rescue/Truck 1, Rescue 1, and District 3 for rising to the challenge and demonstrating expert skill and calm under pressure during this high-adrenaline rescue,” Tampa Fire Rescue said in a social media post.
