A Clermont teen was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after crashing her vehicle into a motorcycle and a house.
A deputy responded to a reckless driver, 18-year-old Jaylyn Danielle Kosmyna, near Casa de Orlando, located at 16412 Nelson Park Dr., Clermont, around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy canvassed the area and heard a loud exhaust. He then saw a silver Infiniti sedan with the driver’s window rolled down. He rolled down his own window and told Kosmyna to stop, to which she fled toward U.S. Hwy. 27. Bystanders advised that the vehicle was doing burnouts in the apartment complex plot, the report said.
The deputy turned around to catch up to Kosmyna and saw her run a red light at the intersection with Golden Eagle Boulevard. She next turned onto Citrus Parkway, where the deputy initiated a traffic stop. She instead continued to flee by driving through yards, the report said.
At that point, the deputy ended his pursuit and waited for more units to arrive due to the community having only one way in and out. It was then that dispatchers got a call about a crash on Citrus Parkway. The deputy responded to see Kosmyna in front of the crashed vehicle, the report said.
She had hit a motorcycle on one property and struck a house on another. The estimated value of the damage totaled $35,000, the report said.
The property owner with the motorcycle provided video footage of the crash to law enforcement. In it, the vehicle struck the motorcycle, and Kosmyna got out while it was still moving, letting it hit the next house over. She tried to flee on foot but was near the vehicle when the deputy arrived, the report said.
Kosmyna later advised that she had two Beatbox alcohol beverages and one BuzzBall at her apartment on Nelson Park Drive. Her breath smelled strongly of alcohol as she agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises. Her performance led the deputy to conclude she was under the influence. She provided breath samples of 0.163 and 0.157, the report said.
The Michigan native was arrested on charges of DUI and fleeing to elude. She was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $7,500.
