Jacksonville man says he witnessed pit bulls attack a man in his neighborhood.

Neighbors on Jacksonville’s Southside are concerned after witnessing what they say was a dog attack in their neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Gary Hunter Sr. sent First Coast News a short video clip from outside his home showing his son walking towards a group of dogs across the street.

“I saw three pit bulls attacking a man walking his dog on a leash,” Hunter said. “I immediately got my son to grab a big, huge stick I have in the house, to go out and try to fend them off.”

In the video, the man and his two leashed dogs are standing right next to at least two unleashed dogs. It appears the dogs aren’t being attacked. But, the clip is only six seconds long.

“It [the attack] lasted about 15 minutes,” Hunter told First Coast News.

Hunter says the attack started outside his home and continued all the way down to the other end of his block.

“He was kickin’ him, bootin’ him, running him, doing everything, and when one would attack this way, the other one would attack the other way,” Hunter said. “I heard one of his dogs got bit by the pit bulls because he squealed real loud.”

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says it got a call Tuesday afternoon about loose dogs in the neighborhood.

At the corner of Capricorn Street and Duskin Drive, the sheriff’s office picked up three pit bulls. But, JSO says there were no victims or injuries so, the dogs were returned to their owners.

“Giving them back [to the owner], [the] neighborhood is in danger again,” Hunter said.

Hunter says this isn’t the first incident involving the pit bulls.

“About 2018/2019, they attacked a gentleman working in my garage,” Hunter said. “I ran them off.”

No one was hurt then, or Tuesday. But, Hunter says he’s worried about tomorrow.

“Somebody is going to get hurt, we got babies being pushed around in carts [around the neighborhood],” Hunter said.
