Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash early Thursday in Buena Ventura Lakes that left a 60-year-old Kissimmee man dead and another man injured.

The wreck occurred around 1:25 a.m. at Buenaventura Boulevard and Oakwood Drive, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the 60-year-old man was driving a 2013 Toyota Prius eastbound on Oakwood Drive, approaching Buenaventura Boulevard in the left turn lane. A 2011 Nissan Rogue being driven by a 33-year-old Kissimmee man was traveling southbound on Buenaventura Boulevard, approaching Oakwood Drive in the inside lane, the report states.

When the Prius’ driver attempted to lake a left turn onto northbound Buenaventura Boulevard, the sedan entered the Nissan SUV’s direct path, troopers said. The front of the SUV then struck the left side of the Prius, causing the sedan to run off the roadway in a northeasterly direction.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene while the Nissan’s driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the crash report.
