Lakewood Ranch man killed in two-vehicle crash

Lakewood Ranch man killed in two-vehicle crash

A 90-year-old Lakewood Ranch driver has died after he ran a red light and hit an oncoming SUV on State Road 70, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators say the man had stopped at a red light on River Club Boulevard, at State Road 70, at about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The man proceeded north into the intersection against the red traffic signal. His sedan collided with an SUV driven by a 33-year-old Bradenton woman.

The woman was not injured. The driver of the sedan was taken to a hospital with serious injuries where he later died, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
