Man accused of sexually abusing a minor in Miami had been issued an FIU trespass warning.

Miami-Dade correctional officers were holding a 20-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, records showed Sunday afternoon.

Correctional officers booked Elijah Nathan Jean-Gilles, who turns 21 later this month, shortly after 1:40 a.m., on Saturday, county inmate records show.

Police officers arrested Jean-Gilles on Friday. Court records show the arresting agency was the Miami Police Department. According to the arrest report released on Monday, Jean-Gilles grabbed the girl between the legs while she was walking near the intersection of North Miami Avenue and Northwest 24 Street.

The girl told police officers she managed to get away from Jean-Gilles, ran to the nearby Bubba Tea and Smoothies, and called her mother, who then reported it to police. There was a witness.

Before the attack, Florida International University Police Department issued Jean-Gilles a trespass warning on April 28, 2023, and updated it on Feb. 6, records show.

Jean-Gilles was at the Metrowest Detention Center on Sunday near Doral. He was facing one count of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child between the ages of 12 to 16, and two counts of battery.

Jean-Gille was held without bond and his case was on hold for pre-trial diversion, and a pre-trial detention hearing was set for 9 a.m., on Monday, court records show.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Ariel Rodriguez was set to preside over the case.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
