A Vero Beach man was arrested on Monday for allegedly punching a nurse in the face at the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital Behavioral Health Center, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
SC, 40, of Vero Beach, was charged with battery on an officer, firefighter or EMT — a third-degree felony.
Deputies responded to a call of an assault at 9:23 p.m. Monday. Police wrote in their report that C became agitated as nurses were completing paperwork to admit him. One of the nurses tried unsuccessfully to get C to sit down, at which point he punched one of the nurses in the face.
Deputies noticed a red mark on the nurse’s face from where he was punched. After interviewing the nurses and other witnesses, deputies placed C under arrest.
C is in the Indian River County Jail with a $2,500 bond.
This is the second time this year that a nurse has been punched at the facility. On Feb. 24, B S was arrested for punching a nurse in the neck.
