Man detained after shooting wife in Sarasota: deputies

A man was detained by Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies after he was suspected of shooting his wife on Monday.

SCSO deputies were called to the 4500 block of Ottawa Trail at 10:08 a.m.

They found a woman who was shot and remained conscious. She was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A rifle was found on the ground in the outside parking area. SCSO said the suspect, her husband, was detained by deputies.

Deputies searched the area for additional victims and none were found. SCSO said there is no threat to the public.
