Man dies after shooting near Avondale, police say

A man died Wednesday night following a shooting near Jacksonville’s Avondale neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said the shooting occurred after 5 p.m. near Labelle Street.

Police said Jacksonville Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and found a man, believed to be in his early 20s, with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, JSO said.

The agency said the investigation remains active, adding that they are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office, Crime Scene Unit, and State Attorney’s Office.

There is currently no information on a suspect nor have any arrests been made.
