A man was killed, a woman suffered critical injuries and a child was among two others hurt in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 1:48 p.m. on County Road 42, just east of SE 105th Avenue, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, a sedan traveling west on C.R. 42 crossed over the center line and struck an eastbound pickup truck head-on, scattering vehicle debris that went on to strike a third vehicle and cause significant damage to it.
The driver of the sedan, identified as a 30-year-old Leesburg man, was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. His passenger, a 27-year-old Eustis woman, suffered critical injuries, troopers said. Neither she nor the sedan’s driver were wearing seat belts during the crash, according to FHP. A third occupant from the sedan was described as a male who fled the scene.
In the pickup truck, the 32-year-old Summerfield man driving it and a 4-year-old Summerfield boy riding as a passenger both suffered minor injuries in the crash, the report states.
None of the five occupants of the third car were injured in the crash, according to FHP.
C.R. 42 was shut down for about three hours as the investigation took place, troopers said.
