A man was killed in a Sarasota County car crash early Tuesday morning.
A Toyota sedan was traveling west in the outside travel lane of U.S. 41, approaching the intersection of Englewood Drive at 12:01 a.m. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Laurel, was unable to keep control of the car while driving, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. After the collision, the car began traveling on the north sidewalk of U.S. 41 before reentering the roadway in a westerly direction into the intersection of SR-776. The car continued west and rotated in a counterclockwise direction before colliding with the median facing in a southeasterly direction. The car continued over the median and the inside line of eastbound U.S. 41 until it collided with the south curb of U.S. 41.
The front right of the car collided with a light pole on the south grassy shoulder before crashing with a Chevy pickup truck, which was parked and unoccupied.
