A man was seriously injured in a shooting in Lauderdale Lakes on Sunday afternoon.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Lauderdale Lakes District deputies later found the victim along Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderhill.
According to BSO, deputies received a call around 3:30 p.m. about a shooting victim in Lauderhill.
The initial shooting incident took place along West Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderdale Lakes, before the victim traveled in a vehicle to the Lauderhill location where he was found, BSO confirmed.
The area was roped off for hours and shut down Oakland Park Boulevard and Northwest 64th Avenue Sunday afternoon.
NBC6 cameras captured a BMW vehicle at the scene with bullet holes. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a BSO spokesperson.
The shooting comes as city leaders in Lauderhill are hoping to end gun violence in the area.
Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa Dunn, described Sunday how the city had nine homicides in 2023, a huge jump from the three that occurred in 2022.
“Any one of those things isolated by itself will not move the needle, but when you combine them, when you combine great policing with technology, with community involvement and with a movement that really encourages people to shift their mindset,” Dunn said. “I believe you’re gonna see a change in Lauderhill.”
On Monday, city leaders will launch Lauderhill Peace 365, an initiative which includes research to get to the root of what is causing the uptick of gun violence, community engagement, conflict resolution workshops and stepped up policing.
At this time, no details have been released on a possible shooter or what led up to the shooting.
