A man shot in the neck in Stuart managed to escape and run to the police station for help early Sunday morning, ending in an attempted murder arrest.
According to the Stuart Police Department (SPD), just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a shooting in the 900 block of SE Tarpon Ave.
The victim was reportedly shot in the neck by the suspect, 42-year-old VN of Stuart, but made a brave escape and was able to run to the police station for help.
Upon arrival at the station, police say they rendered aid. During the investigation, police secured the firearm involved and processed the scene.
Police say they had an abundance of evidence, including a blood trail and surveillance footage of the fleeing victim as the escape vehicle drove through a field in a suspected attempt to strike the victim.
SPD says its patrol officers were able to quickly locate and detain N, using physical evidence to link her to the crime.
N was arrested and booked on counts of attempted second-degree murder.
“The swift resolution of this incident is a testament to the coordinated teamwork of road patrol officers, dispatchers, and detectives,” the police department said in a statement.
Residents living inside the neighborhood where the shooting occurred told CBS12 News they were awoken by sounds of gunfire and that shootings are not rare to the area.
