Man struck, killed while lying in Merritt Island roadway, FHP says.

A pedestrian was struck by an SUV and killed late Friday while lying in a Merritt Island roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. on N. Banana River Drive at Central Avenue, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 29-year-old Merritt Island man — was lying in the northbound lane of Banana River Drive in the direct path of the SUV.

As a result, the SUV struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.

Troopers said the 57-year-old Merritt Island woman driving the SUV was not injured and remained at the scene.

FHP is still investigating.
