Deputies are searching for a man’s whereabouts after he attacked someone at a home gathering in DeBary over the weekend, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s office.
In a release, the sheriff’s office announced that the man — identified as JM-M, 38 — was approached by the victim at the house gathering along Sycamore Drive on Saturday night.
“After the victim asked (M-M) for $100 he was owed, the suspect pistol-whipped him, hit him with a metal baseball bat, and used a stun baton on him,” the release reads.
Despite a ground search, though, deputies haven’t been able to locate M-M, who was identified as living in the U.S. illegally, investigators wrote.
However, a K-9 unit involved in the search did stumble across a bear while scouring the woods, the sheriff’s office revealed.
“Both sides walked away from this encounter unharmed and with a mutual respect,” deputies said.
Meanwhile, deputies added they managed to identify seven other subjects who were detained for being in the country illegally amid the search for M-M.
According to investigators, those seven subjects were taken to the Orange County Jail, where ICE detainers were placed on them.
Anyone with information on M-M’s whereabouts is urged to contact 911 or @CrimeStoppersNE.
