The Bay County Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred in Fountain Thursday morning.
Smoke and ashes billowed from the charred remains of what once was a residential mobile home on Harrington Road.
“The structure’s a double-wide mobile home park area on the property. The fire was completely involved in the structure and partially involved in the garage on the property as well,” Bay County Fire Department Battalion Chief Darrel Wise said.
Officials say they contained the fire as fast as they could to prevent it from spreading to the nearby woods.
“Since Hurricane Michael, we have had a lot of blowdown around the area, a lot of dead trees such as that. Of course, March winds are not a fireman’s friend as far as the spread of fire, so we’ll be contending with that as well as the blowdown for a while,” Wise said.
Flames did reach part of the wooded area behind the residence, but they didn’t get far.
“The flames were burning back towards the woods behind the structure and we notified forestry,” Wise said. “They’re on scene to ensure that we didn’t have any spot-overs in the woods and such as that.”
Wise said the mobile home had been vacant for a while. They don’t believe anyone was inside when it caught fire. That means the source of the fire is still a mystery for now.
“No injuries on scene. We did have our domestic division also respond with us on all structure fires for the safety of our personnel while they’re working the scene and in case we have a civilian victim on the scene,” Wise said.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
