A 45-year-old man from Waxahachie, Texas, was arrested Sunday after authorities said he attacked deputies in the Florida Keys after they pulled over his vehicle.

According to Monroe County Sherriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, Chad Neal McDonald was pulled over shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday as he was driving a Dodge pickup truck that was pulling a boat trailer with no license plate or functioning tail lights.

Linhardt said deputies smelled marijuana emanating from the truck and spotted glass pipes in plain view.

“The drugs and paraphernalia were subsequently found,” he said in an email to Local 10 News.

According to Linhardt, as deputies were trying to detain McDonald, he kicked them and tried to grab one deputy’s gun from its holster.

He was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer following a traffic stop, possession of 1.1 grams of methamphetamine, possession of 5.5 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
